Stogumber Station and the West Somerset Railway

Stogumber Station run by volunteers, is one of the ten and prettiest stations of the West Somerset Railway, which spans almost 23 miles, travelling between Bishops Lydeard and the coast at Minehead. The station garden is a beautiful setting to sit, relax and enjoy a cream tea whilst watching the trains as they journey to and from the coast.

Dunster Village and Castle

Visit the medieval village of Dunster with its yarn market, cobbled pavements and various cafes and restaurants. Dunster Castle, the working water mill and Packhorse Bridge should not be missed.

Watchet town, Marina and East Quay

Watchet is a friendly, vibrant harbour town on the West Somerset coast just a few miles from Stogumber. The harbourside East Quay development contains a gallery, artist studios, education space and restaurant.

Walking

Walking – the area around Stogumber is criss-crossed with footpaths for walkers to explore. Nearby are the Quantock Hills and Exmoor which provide endless opportunities for rambling. The Coleridge Way, The South West Coast Path, Dunster Tall Trees Trail, Dunkery and Horner Wood, the Great Wood trail and the Steam Coast Trail can all be reached by a short car journey.

The Coast

West Somerset has many beaches to offer, with sandy beaches at Minehead, Dunster and Blue Anchor Bay forming around 7km of unbroken accessible coastline.

Cricket

The local village cricket team was founded in 1875, and since moving grounds in 1990 has grown immensely. Taunton, just 12 miles from Stogumber, is the home of Somerset Cricket Club.

Halsway Manor

National Centre for Folk Arts. A charity set up to promote the practice of traditional folk arts. Halsway has a full programme of activities and events running through the year.

Fishing

Local rivers and lakes, including Clatworthy, and Wimbleball reservoirs offer many different fishing experiences to be enjoyed whilst staying at Hall Farm.

There are many 18 hole golf courses within easy travelling distance of Hall Farm, as well as shorter 9 hole courses

Sailing and Canoeing

A number of venues around Hall Farm offer both sailing and canoeing activities. Wimbleball lake has both sailing and windsurfing to offer, with Somerset adventuresusing Wimbleball as well as other local rivers and lakes for canoe training courses.

Shopping

Many towns local to Stogumber provide an exciting shopping experience, with the county town of Somerset, Taunton, sitting only 30 minutes away from Hall Farm.

Horse Riding

Areas surrounding Stogumber provide many opportunities for horse riding, with Burrowhayes Farm offering horses and ponies for hire and escorted rides of mixed abilities in on Exmoor.

Hinkley Point

Hall Farm is situated around 12 miles away from Hinkley Point, a drive which takes around 30 minutes. As development of Hinkley Point C proceeds, the farm is in an excellent location for workers to stay for long term Bed and Breakfast.

West Somerset has an abundance of cafes, pubs, restaurants and food outlets. Favourites include The White Horse Inn, The Rocking Horse, The Bay and Glenmore Bakery.

Founded in the 12th century by William de Roumare, the abbey is a Grade 1 listed building with the most complete and unaltered set of monastic cloister buildings in England.
